Legalization of Certified or Standard Translations with an Apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

At Legalisering.dk, we offer the service of legalizing your translation by obtaining a certification from the Danish Chamber of Commerce (Dansk Industri) or a notary, followed by an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This service is available for both certified and company-certified translations. If you’d like to know more about what an apostille is, you can read more here.

What Does Legalization with Apostille Mean?

Legalization with an apostille authenticates a foreign public document by verifying the signature and the authority of the signatory. It does not certify the content of the document—that's what a certified or certified translation does.

Why Do I Need an Apostille on My Original Document?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires that translations be accompanied by the original documents before they can be legalized. The original document must also have an apostille before translation. This requirement from the Ministry of Justice ensures that the original is genuine. Since scans of documents can be altered, the Ministry cannot verify them. Therefore, Legalisering.dk now offers to legalize your original document before translation, ensuring that the legalized original is included with the translation. You are also welcome to handle the legalization of your original yourself and send it to us afterward.

Why Is Apostille Required on the Translation?

Often, recipients require an apostille on the translation to verify that the certified translator is indeed authorized to sign the translation. You can handle this process yourself if preferred—this is done at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs located at Asiatisk Plads in Copenhagen, the only place in Denmark where this is possible.

How We Translate and Legalize Your Document

If you need a translation that requires legalization, please first send your document electronically to us via email or through our website form. We recommend scanning your documents to make them easier for the translator to read.

Once you’ve sent us your documents, we will provide a non-binding quote. We will ask whether you want us to obtain an apostille for your original document or if you prefer to handle this yourself. Just send us the document, and we’ll take care of the rest.

After you approve our quote, Legalisering.dk will translate your document, combine it with your original, and take it to the district court or the Danish Chamber of Commerce (Dansk Industri) to verify its authenticity, then obtain an apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All of this is included in the price we provide. You will then receive a scan of the translation, and the physical documents will be sent via GLS to a nearby parcel shop or your office.

Do You Need a Certified Translation?

Be aware that some foreign authorities may require a translation done by a certified translator, with their signature and stamp. If you need such a translation, Legalisering.dk can also assist with this.
